Personal Trainer Overview
Why Me Over Others??? I have 30+ years of experience working in health clubs in NY, LA, & Eugene. I have a degree & a certification in fitness & a Masters in Medicine & Nutrition and am owner of a private practice where I marry exercise & nutrition to help my clients find balance, bringing their bodies to optimal health so that weight loss occurs as a result of getting healthy. The body puts on weight or has trouble losing it, ONLY because there is some sort of an imbalance, not because you eat too much, or don't move enough. The body is like a house, built upon a foundation that must be maintained. When that foundation is compromised, it will begin to show cracks, symptoms that are ways to get your attention to bring it back into balance, both bio-chemically & structurally. Hormones, Gastrointestinal health, Blood Sugar, and certain deficiencies, as well as inflammation/pain are the REAL reasons why people have weight troubles. Whether you've been told it's your thyroid or some other dysfunctional organ, there's an underlying cause that you're unaware of or not being told about that you can assess to bring your body back into balance once again and experience true weight loss once and for good. I am here to educate my clients so that they can make informed health decisions, putting them in control over their health, holding their hand along the way, step by step. Weight didn't accumulate over night, neither is the loss.. It's a PROCESS!!! My cilents are kept moving in the right direction and educated, motivated by me along the way.
Training Philosophy
NASM's OPT Model of Training Uses an integrative, step by step progressive approach to training that uses 3 Phases of Training: Phase 1 - Balance & Stabilization Phase 2 - Strength (a. Stabilization Endurance b. Strength (traditional body building) c. Max Strength No matter the level of exercise everyone starts off at Phase 1 and moves through the program based on their ability to master each exercise. This way you train properly from the inside/out, ground up, avoiding injury this way. A fitness evaluation assesses clients postural and muscle imbalances. Lengthening overactive/tight muscles, strengthening weak muscles to correct posture. For Ex: Protracted, rounded, or "hunched" shoulders are a result of tight chest muscles and weak back muscles. Over time this rolls shoulders the opposite way and strengthens the back, giving more erect, correct posture that shows an ere of confidence in the client that makes them feel good about themselves and is noticed when they enter a room. Similarly, hyper-pronated feet cause knees to knock, hips to twist, resulting in lower back pain that is often mistaken for sciatica. During the warm- up portion of your session these things are corrected, leaving the rest of the time to strengthen your core, increase flexibility, tone and strengthen your entire body burning a ton of calories in the process. NASM trainers work to avoid injury so clients move progressively toward their fitness goals. I am a stickler for form, as this is the key to proper training, as well as fully educating the clients to understand what it means to exercise.
Education
BS- UO Bachelors degree in Human Physiology MS- UWS Masters degree in Functional Medicine & Human Nutrition
Bio
I have 30 years of experience in the health & fitness industry. I studied to be a physician completing pre-med school finishing with a Bachelor of Science, double majoring in Human Physiology (aka Exercise Movement Science) & Biochemistry with a pre-medical technology background. I further graduated the NTA program and am a certified nutritional therapy practitioner. I am also a NASM certified personal trainer. I am further certified in functional gastroenterology and specialize in sibo or small intestinal bacterial overgrowth and other digestive disorders. I have shadowed naturopathic doctor Dr.Daniel Hardt and have worked with colitis patients, colon cancer patients, and many sibo patients. In 2015, I'd like to announce that I've just completed a Master's Degree in Functional Medicine & Human Nutrition from the Univ. of Western States Chiropractic College. I currently own a private practice where I marry exercise & clinical nutrition and want to help people who suffer from the same diseases my parents suffer(ed) from (my father finally passed in 4/2015); obesity, heart disease, colon cancer, epilepsy, colitis, diabetes, osteoporosis, and Alzheimer's. Let's face it, the healthcare system in place today is broken, no longer do pharmaceuticals work for the illnesses listed above..almost all of those are inflammatory diseases, that can also be called "Lifestyle Diseases." Therefore, exercising just to lose weight or because the doctor said you have to is no longer the way to go about it. It's about making PERMANENT changes that become a WAY OF LIFE for you, so that everything you do promotes a state of perpetual wellness. In addition to nutrition & exercise, lifestyle medicine teaches you how to incorporate healthy sleep & relaxation patterns, to recognize stress & your resilience to it, cause let's face it sometimes we cannot remove ourselves from the stressful situations we are faced with, therefore learning healthy coping skills to train the body to go parasympathetic EVERYDAY. Lastly, one of the 5 Human Needs of Survival is the need to belong. Therefore, building healthy networks & relationships is very important. Teaching you how to build and create social networks within your community, strengthen ties to your family, and with a power higher than you to nurture your spirit, are all ways in which Functional Medicine will develop a Lifestyle Wellness Plan for you that will increase your lifespan so that those years are all quality, happy years, free of degenerative diseases.
